Happy May!

May is one of my favorite months of the year. The pollen is just about gone, the mornings are crisp and the afternoons are warm. The neighbors have all come out of their houses and have begun to work in their yards again. I can hear bird's chirping, children playing and lawnmowers running.  All sure signs that the weather is finally warming up.

Our garden is in and green bean sprouts are popping up all over. We hope every year that we can get a few pickings in before the deer discover the buffet they think we planted for them. Luckily they never seem interested in the tomatoes so sometime around the first of June I hope to be eating my first tomato sandwich of the season. Not much makes me happier than a freshly sliced tomato on white bread with mayo. Yum!

I took a promotion with my job in April so my crafting time the last two weeks was cut in half as I got myself organized and settled in with the new position. After two weeks of hardly any crafting I was beyond anxious to get back into my routine. Luckily the last three days I managed to get so many new goodies made and you will find them on the New page.  Quite a few new patterns have been added as well. You will find them on the E-pattern page.

I will be out of town May 14 - May 17 on a business trip so I will be unavailable to answer e-mail during that time. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Prim blessings from my family to yours.

THIS MONTH'S FEATURED RECIPE

Please know that all recipes featured here are not random recipes I pulled from a cookbook or website. They are all tried and true recipes right from my personal collection.  This particular recipe is right from my Granny's archives.

Dixie Peanut Brittle

2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup water
1/2 tsp salt
2 Tbls butter or margarine
4 cups raw shelled peanuts, skins on
2 tsp baking soda

In a heavy saucepan heat sugar, water and salt to a rolling boil.
Add peanuts. Reduce heat to medium and stir constantly.  Cook until syrup spins a thread (293 degrees F)
Add butter, then baking soda.  Beat rapidly and pour on a buttered surface spreading to 1/4" thickness. When cool break into pieces.
